        a.k.a.

School was erected and certified 22nd August 1881 and opened by the Home Secretary, Sir William Harcourt on the 29th October 1881.  The buildings are of brick with freestone facings, purpose-built with central heating.  The site occupies the whole of Grayson's Close at the junction of Strawberry House Lane and Lorton Road and the grounds, some 20 acres,  (12 for market garden and 5 for a playing field) are beautified by some well laid out shrubberies.

The premises will accommodate 150 boys, who must be from the County of Cumberland.  The children are trained to the habits of Industry.

Cessation of certification or closure in 1920.

1900 - Superintendent Mr A.A. Williams (Captain I.V.B., Border Regiment) matron Miss Williams; schoolmaster Mr W.C. Brodie; assistant schoolmaster Mr H.A. Taylor; pupil teacher Mr W.J. Stevenson appointed 6th November 1899 to succeed Mr Adams who left April 1899.

1903 - The superintendent and matron Mr & Mrs A.A. Williams left 14th July 1902 when they were succeeded by Mr C.T. Howes and Mrs Howes; schoolmaster Mr W.C. Brodie; Mr G.W. Nicholson, assistant schoolmaster left 15th December; Mr W.H. Smithwhite commenced duty 31st March.  Pupil teacher R.O. Waite.
